Brea-based apparel manufacturer AST Sportswear is taking over American Apparel’s former 95,000-square-foot Hawthorne facility.

The two-story building was used as a manufacturing dye house by embattled American Apparel, which was acquired by Gilden Activewear Inc. for $88 million earlier this year in a bankruptcy auction.

AST expects to add more than 120 manufacturing jobs to its payroll following the move, the Los Angeles Business Journal reported.

The company officially signed its lease in the fourth quarter of 2016 and also purchased American Apparel’s equipment, including machinery related to fabric dyeing and finishing as well as compressors and boilers, the business journal said.

Steve Bohannon, Rooney Daschbach, Rusty Smith and Eric Daschbach of Cushman & Wakefield represented the landlord, Liberty Property Trust, in the transaction. Rents at the property were not immediately available.  [LABJ]  — Subrina Hudson
